John Nicholson (29 November 1790 – 13 April 1843)[3] was popularly known as the Airedale Poet[4] and also as the Bingley Byron.[5] His most notable work was Airedale in Ancient Times. He died trying to cross the swollen River Aire near to Dixon's mill in Saltaire.[6]
