The data contained in this collection are from the Travel-to-Work supplement to the 1976 Annual Housing Survey (AHS) SMSA file. The Travel-to-Work supplement was sponsored by the United States Department of Transportation, and the data were collected by the Bureau of the Census. Questions were asked of all family members 14 years and over who were employed at the time of the interview. The AHS SMSA collection for 1976 contains data from 20 selected SMSAs: Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA/NJ--Baltimore, MD--Birmingham, AL--Buffalo, NY-- Cleveland, OH--Denver, CO--Grand Rapids, MI--Honolulu, HI--Houston, TX-- Indianapolis, IN--Las Vegas, NV--Louisville, KY/IN--New York, NY--Oklahoma City, OK--Omaha, NE/IA--Providence-Pawtucket-Warwick, RI-MA--Raleigh, NC-- Sacramento, CA--St. Louis, MO/IL--Seattle-Everett, WA. Current information is provided concerning census tract of residence, census tract or State/county of place of work, type of transportation used to get to work, time leaving for work, and other transportation-related issues. The data are organized into 20 separate files, one for each SMSA.
