Description

During 1963-1964 data were collected on the 1962 criminal court cases for the 50 states and District of Columbia. A sample of cases from 194 counties was selected and weighted to yield a national cross-section of cases. The data include demographic information on the defendant, state and county of trial, offense charged, sentence, type of counsel, amount of bail, length of time in jail, and other variables relating to disposition of the case.
