Description

Several bodies of data prepared for instructional use in the ICPSR Training Program and for graduate-level history courses at The University of Michigan. These data sets can be supplied for either training or research purposes. The data files contain social, demographic, electoral, and economic data for various areas of the United States, usually for an extended period of time. Included among these data sets is a file of electoral, demographic, and economic data (approximately 10,000 card-image equivalents) for the counties of Michigan, New York, and Nebraska, 1920-1940, several matched-merged state-level data sets for the United States containing economic, demographic, and social variables for the period from 1860 to 1900 (approximately 7,000 card-image equivalents), and two data sets containing the county-level returns for forty-two referenda in Ohio in 1912 (approximately 4,500 card-image equivalents). The referenda in the latter data set include many questions considered important in the Progressive movement, one data set is arranged with counties as the units of analysis, while in the other the referenda are the units of analysis.
