A sample of registered lobbyists were interviewed in 1956 and 1957 in order to investigate the relationships of lobbyists to policy-making, occupational history, interest in public affairs, reasons for becoming a lobbyist, political activities, respondents' relationship to the organizations they represent, where they try to establish contact, techniques used, how lobbying skills were acquired, and an appraisal of success.
