The data in this study combine information from mail questionnaires received from a sample of teaching hospitals during 1959-1960 and data on these hospitals from published reference sources. The data describe the environmental setting of the hospitals, their administrative structure and size, the diffusion of innovation, and the stratification within the organizations.
