Survey of Botswana political participation, 1970

Description

This study, a secondary student survey, was administered in five schools which were geographically separate and whose curricula emphasized different subjects. In each school, classes which had both first and last year students were administered the questionnaire. The survey focused on the perceived structure of the local and national decision-making processes and the relationship between traditional (tribal) and modern (elected) loci of power. The survey questions fell into five groupings: perception of power structure, respondent participation in local politics, decision-making, degree of political knowledge, and view of community cohesion. Demographic material includes tribal affilation, intra-tribal class, media usage, travel experience and source of livelihood.
