Description

"All you're asking me to do," declared Poirot with some heat, "is to solve a crime that's already been solved--to free a man who is sentenced to hang in just three weeks!"

The question, in Hercule Poirot's mind, was clear-cut. Had James Bentley killed Mrs. McGinty--or was he, as claimed, completely innocent? The question--ah yes! But the answer? All Poirot had to do was ignore the evidence against the young man (of which there was plenty) and dig up fresh evidence (of which there was none) against a person or persons unknown.

However, when Poirot's probing brought certain significant facts to light, the task became somewhat easier. For instance, Mrs. McGinty had never written letters. Yet, prior to her death, she had bought a bottle of ink. And among her effects was a faded newspaper clipping about three missing women all of whom, at one time or another, had been wanted for murder.

This is the fifty-second novel by Agatha Christie, one of the world's leading exponents of the fine art of mystery writing.
