Der Russen-Boom
Description
During the Cold War, cultural diplomacy between Moscow and Bonn was a difficult venture. Art exhibitions were an especially controversial instrument of opinion forming, since the interest of both art historians and the public was very different in the East and the West, with abstract art predominating in Europe and social realism in the Soviet Union. This study investigates the diplomatic missions of the art exhibition projects that occurred between 1970 and 1990.
